Great day to sit in the sunshine and while away 2 hours. Maggie is encouraging and patient; she gives good advice. I went home and dabbled a little more and love what I?ve come up with.

Very insightful to look at abstract art in a new way. Loved that the instructor moved us out of the cold and into a sunny spot but not sure what can be done for the venue if it rains. Will classes be cancelled/postponed?

A mixed media work using watercolour pencils (my favourite) and pens. I?m lucky enough to have permission to use photos from a friend and local bird photographer of some repute, so credit must also go to https://www.flickr.com/photos/rawshorty/ . This study is a combination of two photos of the Latham?s Snipe on their annual visit to the Canberra region all the way from Japan.

Painted during the recent inaugural Capital Plein Air Festival capitalpleinair, I tried to capture the beauty of a crisp autumn morning looking out from the National Arboretum across Lake Burley Griffin and the national capital. The autumn colours in Canberra are stunning and on a clear autumn day you can (almost) see forever. Watercolour on Baohong 300gsm rough 380x280

Title or Location: Homage to Imlay
Long ago in the Navy my ship HMAS ANZAC steamed into twofold Bay after a very rough night at sea with damage to the upper deck. 50 years later I found myself living on the far south coast and painted almost every beach from Narooma to Eden culminating in Eden Harbour with an image of Mount Imlay in the distance. It is an area of constant fascination and beauty.

This piece is all about finding light after darkness, and the quiet strength that blooms when you least expect it. It features a bold magenta King Protea and a vibrant orange one, surrounded by lush green?each element a little symbol of healing, resilience, and fresh beginnings. This one means a lot to me personally. It came from a place of deep reflection and growth, and painting it felt like exhaling after holding my breath for a long time. Here?s to soft comebacks, quiet strength, and t

I stumbled across this coffee cart in Huskisson one morning as the sun came up. I loved the way the early morning light cast dramatic shadows. I painted it while on a cruise holiday with my husband last year. It holds lovely memories of two holidays.

I started learning about Dot Mandala Art at the end of last year, and the more I created, the more I became addicted to it. Creating this art has been incredibly therapeutic for my mind. I began with small pieces, and this particular artwork is the largest piece I've made so far( 45cm)It took me about 12 hours to complete.

I was researching Arizona Native Americans and found Geronimo very interesting. Quote: "He was a fierce leader of the Apache tribe who fought against Mexican and American invaders for decades. He was also a prisoner, a farmer, and a writer. He was Geronimo." I used several photos as inspiration and the painting is what I came up with.

I spent the summer of 2024 developing this art form. I am free-forming epoxy resin and fusing. This allows me to layer and make 3D sculptures and relief from a medium not typically suited for this purpose. At this time, I have not found anyone else who has done this with epoxy resin. It appears to be glass, but it's not.Artist Statement:Virginia Alden's artistry is a vibrant synthesis of nature and craftsmanship, where each piece is meticulously hand-formed or painted from epoxy resin.
